BART officials say the undercarriage of an empty rail car sitting on some side tracks at the station began smoking and then showing flames at 4:40 p.m. All BART traffic through the station was shut down, and a bus bridge set up to ferry passengers around the blockage.
The fire was snuffed at 5:26 p.m., and normal service restored at 6:10 p.m. No injuries were reported.
