The St. Louis affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure said Friday it has awarded more than $2.5 million to 27 local programs dedicated to breast cancer screening, treatment, education and support and one grant that supports local research and clinical trials.
In addition, more than $800,000 raised locally went to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program to fund research.
It is a record amount of money the Komen St. Louis affiliate has granted out to the community. The affiliate has invested more than $11 million in the area since 1999.
The grants were awarded at an event held at Wachovia Securities, local presenting sponsor for the 11th Annual Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure
