Friends and teammates since elementary school, Palmetto High students Max Halasz, David Lee and Adam Sargent organized a charity coed softball game to benefit Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society's signature fundraising event.

The athletes ''teamed up'' with other members of the varsity baseball and softball teams to form Team Up Against Cancer. To participate in the game, each player made a donation to Relay for Life. Primary fundraising was collected through a gate fee, a concession stand, a silent auction and contributions from friends, family and members of the community.

The students raised over $2,700.

Margie Archer-Seaman and Elyse Waronker, both teachers and cancer survivors, were honored at the opening ceremony dedicated to celebrating survivors, remembering those who have died and those who are fighting back against the disease.
