Relay for Life of Sherwood, taking place Saturday, Aug. 8 to Sunday, Aug. 9 at Sherwood High School’s track, will begin with a ceremony honoring survivors as they make the opening lap of the event.
This first lap will be followed with the celebration of our invaluable caregivers. Teams and other participants will applaud and encourage these courageous individuals as they circle the track. Following the ceremony, survivors and a guest will be hosted to a fabulous free meal.
If you are a cancer survivor or know someone who would enjoy this celebration, contact our Survivor Chairpersons, Nancy Carl at bugaboo2me@gmail.com or Liz Keebler at keeb1101@verizon.net.
Youth participation is also an integral part of the Relay for Life. Youth are encouraged to participate by forming a team or volunteering at the event. Youth teams can be a group of friends, a club, such as NHS, Spanish or Science Club, or graduating classes. Congratulations to Hopkins Elementary for helping our youth get involved by hosting their upcoming Mini Relay, on Friday May 15.
The entire school will participate in this fun and educational event, raising money for the American Cancer Society. All fundraising from the mini relay will go toward the Sherwood Relay for Life. Our goal for this year’s Relay is to have at least 35 teams and 40 survivors participate. Spread the word and sign up today to have a team at Sherwood’s Relay for Life.
Teams consist of 8-15 members who take turns walking the track during the event. Monthly team meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:00 pm at the Sherwood Senior Center. Form a team, by registering at our website:
www.relayforlife.org/sherwoodor.
Click on the tab “Form a Team”. The registration fee is $100 for adult teams, $50 for youth teams, and includes informational materials and an event t-shirt for each person on the team. For team questions, contact Team Development Chair, Christine Adams at butterflychris21@yahoo.com. If you would like to volunteer, contact Eryn Ross at eryn.ross@comcast.net.
Businesses can take advantage of Sponsorship Opportunities starting at only $500, up to $2,500. Each sponsor will receive exposure, depending on their sponsorship level, via having their company logo on the event website, included in community flyers, brochures, the event program, and on the event t-shirts.
Each sponsor can also have banners around the track at the event. Relay is a great event for networking and creating community awareness for your business.
Did you know the contributions we receive from generous supporters like you has allowed the American Cancer Society to be involved in many of the major cancer research breakthroughs of the last century, including confirmation of smoking as a cause of lung cancer, development of the pap smear to detect cervical cancer; PSA test for prostate cancer screening, use of tamoxifen to reduce risk of second or first breast cancers and many others. The dollars raised at Relay are making a difference in the lives of cancer survivors every day.
