Sexual Assault Victim Hopes Her Story Will Help Others

Every year, anywhere between three and four million women are abused – many of them sexually.

That’s why April has been designated as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

It is also why a sexual assault survivor is sharing her story, not only in hopes of helping other victims come forward, but also offering them hope.

Jessica Foster became a victim of sexual abuse at a very young age. She says her adopted father started sexually assaulting her when she was just 18 months old. He didn’t stop until she was 14.

At the age of 11, Jessica was assaulted by another man and by age 20 she had been raped.

But she says she found hope and other women can too, if they just come forward, share their story and ask for help.

"They will protect you,” Jessica said. “It's going to hurt and it's going to be hard, but the rewards are just so great when you finally let go of all that hurt and all that pain."

If you or someone you know is the victim of sexual assault, there are several inspirational and supportive events being put on by the Women’s Community in Wausau this month.
