Officials announced the birth of another baby giraffe at San Francisco Zoo on Thursday, the second so far this year.

The newborn reticulated giraffe, whose parents are named Floyd and Kristin, was reported to be in good health on its first day, standing, nursing and walking alongside its mother, according to zoo veterinarians.

"The first 24 hours after any birth are always vital,'' said chief of veterinary services Jacqueline Jencek in a prepared statement. "We want to see the calf nursing, walking, sitting down and standing up. It's part of early development and allows us to ensure the calf is progressing well.''

It has not yet been determined if the new calf is male or female, according to zoo officials.

A giraffe named Bititi gave birth to a female, Camilla, on January 26, 2009.
