Wash. state Rep. Armstrong suffers heart attack

OLYMPIA, Wash. —

Republican state Rep. Mike Armstrong, of Wenatchee, is recuperating in an Olympia hospital after heart surgery Thursday.

House spokesman John Sattgast says doctors performed an angioplasty to remove a blockage in one of the blood vessels to Armstrong's heart. An aide reported to Sattgast that the surgery was a success and Armstrong is resting comfortably.

Armstrong began to feel ill Wednesday evening as he was walking up the steps to the governor's mansion, where he was to receive an award for supporting state parks. He was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital.

Armstrong is expected to be released Friday.
